After a long break, the boys and girls cross country teams came out on top. The boys had a 68-46 season, which was finished off with a trip to the Semi-State meet. The Lady Warriors left with a team-record of 54-49.
“[It was] definitely the weirdest and hardest season by far. I wouldn’t [have] wanted it any other way though. [I’m] just glad to be back on the course with my coach and teammates,” junior Ethan Carter said.
The Lady Warriors ran a total of 35 miles per week to amp up for the meets that came their way. WC is proud to have three girls earn Academic All-State (Vianney Gonzalez-Gonzalez, Marinna Bogatov, Makayla Coburn). In addition, Sierra Espinoza and Savah Garnette were All-Sectional Runners and Semi-State Qualifiers. The staff and students at Warren Central are also proud of Sierra Espinoza for running the #5 Sophomore time and Savah Garnette running the #10 Junior time for Warren Central.
“I’m really proud of how we all contributed to make our season the best it could be. I think we have a lot more in us that’s waiting to reveal itself this upcoming track season,” junior Isabella Goolsby said.
Our boys’ Cross Country team led with Xavier Wills having the fastest time this year at 16:41. Seniors Jacob Hartman, Kevin Sasser, and Landon Bronnenberg earned All-Sectional Honors. In addition, Hartman and Sasser also earned All-Regionals Honors as well. Following Grant Coburn earning the All-Freshmen County honors.
“I think we all improved quite a bit and that’s given us a ton of confidence looking forward to winter training, track, and next season. We’ve just grown as a team and have greatly improved the way we work off of each other in races,” junior Finley Moulder said.
Not only is this evident in the record this season, but also Jacob Hartman, Branson Dao, and Ethan Carter all earned 1st Academic All-State Honors.
“I am very proud of the hard work and dedication that many of our team members showed throughout the off season when the coaches weren't able to be there. Our seniors showed tremendous leadership and were a big reason for why we were able to have a successful season,” boys head coach Sean O’Brian said.
