As the show and concert choir season begins, Hi-Lites, Chambers, and Connection are preparing for the upcoming season. With songs to learn, there is much to do before getting on stage.

“Learning a piece of music can vary depending on how difficult it really is. It could take us a week, or it could simply take us over a month to learn. In the end of things, it really just depends how much we comprehend,” Chambers president Hannah Walls said.

This season, the choirs are taking the bull by the horns and pushing past their limits. Working diligently and using their time wisely, students in choir are pressing themselves to be the best they can this season.

“This season we're working with new choreographers and directors that are pushing us in ways we haven't been pushed before. The expectations are also a lot higher this year to be dancing and singing outside of class. All of these factors are pushing us to make this season the best one yet,” Hi-Lites dance captain Brooklyn Merrifield said.

Along with the practices, the choirs also make effort in making sure they are united as a group, and not just classmates.

“It is definitely different because of the different kinds of challenges they have put is in and how hard we really do have to work. We have to learn to count on one another and teach each other the music. The directors are no longer holding out hand and are simply just having us think and become better musicians. I think it will be a good season as long as we keep a positive attitude and give it our all,” Walls said.

So far, the build up for the season is looking pretty good for the choirs as a whole, and members are looking forward to what the season has to offer.

“In terms of our current progress, our season is looking like it'll be very successful, especially in comparison to past years. We still have lots of work to do before our first competition and throughout our season but we're in good shape for this time of the year,” Merrifield said.

Though the season has been looking good, there have been some obstacles for students to overcome.

“Our music is taking a little longer than originally planned since there are so many new people in the group. Once we have our pieces ready, we will definitely knock out competition season,” Walls said.

Despite this, this does not faze them as they keep working hard to do their best this season.

“We've been working really hard as of late to get ready for competitions. I think the biggest thing for us has been to find our identity and what we aspire to do this year,” Connection dance captain Jalen Burnette said.

With the season starting soon, all three choirs have been putting hard work into their performance, making sure it is up to par with what they hope for. To do this, they end up putting several hours a week to ensure their best quality work.
